Su funci\u00f3n fundamental es facilitar el acceso al agua de riego a los agricultores de una regi\u00f3n.<\/span><\/p><p><b>Las balsas de riego <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">son sistemas artificiales de almacenamiento de agua que se construyen mediante la excavaci\u00f3n del terreno, normalmente acompa\u00f1ada de la erecci\u00f3n de muros perimetrales. Su objetivo principal es cubrir las necesidades en los periodos de escasez de agua, almacen\u00e1ndola en los periodos de abundancia. Los usos de las balsas son muy diversos, pero se destinan principalmente a la actividad agr\u00edcola (para abastecer el riego de los cultivos) y a la ganader\u00eda.
